UMOJA wins yet another International Award
The proudly South African theatre piece, UMOJA, has been awarded a Planet Africa Award in Toronto, Canada. UMOJA received this prestigious award in the Heritage Category.
The awards ceremony was held on Saturday night, 15th of October, in Toronto, Canada. UMOJA also performed at the gala event.
UMOJA is currently touring Canada and after that the USA and will only be returning to home soil in 2007. UMOJA will embrace the north with the African Cultural Renaissance through powerful rhythms and dance, from traditional music to the intricate steps of gumboot dancing and the smooth Jazz of Sophiatown. They will be performing in Toronto, Windsor, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, San José, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, to name but a few.
UMOJA will be performing for the first time in Cape Town from the 7th of February to the 6th of March 2006 at the Artscape Theatre. Both casts are fully booked in Europe, Canada and the USA for the next two years. Make sure not to miss South Africa’s leading Theatrical Performance!
Background on the Planet Africa Awards:
The Planet Africa Awards program is aimed at identifying and recognizing hard work, excellence and professionalism, which produce role models, especially for our youngsters. It is aimed at individuals, organisations and businesses making a profound difference in the lives of people of African heritage. The hard work, excellence and professionalism of 15 distinguished recipients was held on the 15th of October 2005 at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel in Toronto. The Planet Africa Awards ceremony is held annually in Canada.
